About the Theme: One of the distinctive characteristics of theologies done and lived latinamente is the privileging of lo cotidiano as legitimate and necessary source for teología y pastoral de conjunto. Both faith and popular culture are interwoven in the context of our daily living. The intersection of popular culture and religion is not easily distinguishable. It is impossible, without distortion, to separate the strands. This colloquium seeks to explore ―theologically latinamente‖ the intersections of faith and popular culture. There is no monolithic understanding of popular culture. As Ilan Stavans has noted in Lengua Fresca: Latinos Writing on the Edge, "the border—la línea—dividing high and pop culture is becoming increasingly difficult to trace. The United States has a fluid approach to culture, one often following a dialectical path: what is considered low (jazz and pulp fiction, for instance) is eventually co-opted by the cultural elite" (p. xix) Popular culture remains an arena constructed and contested. For Latin@́s y Hispan@́s popular culture is situated amidst the imaginary and actualidad. Grounded in daily lived experience, popular culture is simultaneously product and process. It involves originating communities of creation and communities of reception
