The focus of this article is to present an approximate method of calculation based on the equivalent column theory. This approximate method of calculation may be successfully applied in the case of tall buildings. Knowing the geometrical and stiffness characteristics of the structure, applying the equivalent column theory may determined: the displacements in both directions, the rotation of the structure, critical load, shear forces, bending moments for each resisting element and the torsional moment of the structure. The results obtained using the approximate calculation method will be compared with the results obtained using an exact calculation based on F.E.M.: Autodesk Robot Structural Analysis and ANSYS 12.1....calculation based on F.E.M.: Autodesk Robot Structural Analysis and ANSYS 12.1. In the Dark Ages, one building was so stunning that it was said to be "suspended by a golden chain from heaven." What kind of building would seem so divine? The heavenly building was the church of Hagia Sophia. The historian Procopius said that it seemed suspended from heaven. He was specifically talking about its big concrete dome that seemed to float in space. This church's name meant Divine Wisdom. It was built from 532 to 537 A.D. under the emperor Justinian I. This church was a great example of Byzantine architecture. Roman builders created many great structures. Then Rome fell. The empire split into western and eastern halves. Emperor Justinian I ruled the eastern section of the old Roman Empire. He revolutionized architecture, and he loved to build churches. His empire was called the Byzantine Empire, and its center was Byzantium. ... Name. Date. Byzantine Architecture. By Colleen Messina. The churches plan distinguished by a central space, covered with a dome on pendentives Short arms on each side form a Greek cross, and the filling in of the angles brings the plan nearly to a square Opposite the entrance was the apse for the altar in the sanctuary, which was screened off by the " Iconostasis " with its three doors, and there were also lateral ritual chapels. The narthex formed an entrance vestibule and was frequently crowned with domes.... Byzantine Architecture Comparative Analysis. ﺍﻟﻌﻤـــﺎﺭﺓ dome on pendentives. The modeling of diesel engine cylinder head gasket joints is complicated by the nonlinear response of the head gasket’s materials. Linearization of these material responses can lead to significant errors in the solution’s results. The 1-dimensional nonlinear approximation made by the Gasket material option of the SOLID185 element sufficiently captures the response of the nonlinear gasket materials while maintaining practical solution times for the large model sizes associated with multi-cylinder head gasket joint models. This paper will give an overview of the model building and assembly process used to create a head gasket joint model, describe the nonlinear nature of the materials used in the model, and present comparisons of the model’s results with experimental measurements...

This tutorial covers SolidWorks Simulation because it is a comfortable environment ... Finite-element analysis (FEA) is useful in predicting a model’s response to various influences such as forces, torques, periodic excitations, and heat. FEA is used to analyze large or complicated models where analytical solutions are not possible. FEA software breaks the model into thousands of small tetrahedral elements and solves numerically for each one individually. Some of the leading commercial FEA tools include COMSOL, Ansys, and SolidWorks Simulation. This tutorial covers SolidWorks Simulation because it is a comfortable environment for those who already know 3D modeling with SolidWorks. SolidWorks Simulation is primarily applicable to mechanical and thermal models.

[10] R. Jonathan, Modeling diesel engine cylinder head gaskets using the gasket material option of the SOLID185 element, ANSYS User’s Conference, 2002...To avoid the escaping gas from the engine affecting the overall performance of the engine during operation, both the proper pre-stressing force of the bolts as well as the gasket design are critical factors in enhancing the efficiency of the sealing of the gasket. In this investigation, both the distribution of the contact pressure on the gasket, and the stresses of the cylinder head at different loading conditions, such as cold assembly, hot assembly, cold start, and hot firing, are explored by numerical calculation based on the finite element method (FEM)....
