Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 SP2 (and later versions) use Direct Push technology which enables a seamless always-on email experience. The connection can be made directly over a mobile network or WLAN, depending on the specific device used and the networks available. Synchronisation is much faster due to enhanced data compression, leading to a quicker experience when sending and receiving messages. To help ensure data security, Exchange ActiveSync uses an encrypted HTTPS connection that is established and maintained between the device and the server while information is being transferred. The Exchange ActiveSync protocol also provides for control over mobile devices, including the abilities in the Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 SP2 release to provision and enforce security policies. By collaborating with a number of service operators, Nokia has also maximised opportunities for companies without their own Exchange Server to take advantage of Exchange ActiveSync, with its broad range of functions, to synchronise data with their Nokia devices.
