Any person who wishes to serve food to the public is required by law to first obtain a food handling permit from Peace Country Health. A permit is issued following a review of facility plans and menu and assuring, by inspection, that the food establishment complies with food safety standards and practices. Monitoring/routine inspections of the food establishment are conducted periodically to assess the operator's success in assuring that routine practices are conducted in a safe and sanitary manner. If deficiencies are observed during these monitoring/routine inspections, they are recorded in an inspection report which is provided to the operator. Such deficiencies are typically classified as either critical, posing a direct or immediate threat to the safety of the food being served, or non-critical, representing a failure of cleaning or maintenance. Ideally, an operation would have no critical or non-critical violations. However, it is unrealistic to expect that a complex, full-service food operation can routinely avoid any violations....Our goal is to protect the health of all foodservice customers. Offer ‘family meals’ as often as possible. Most children do not need special foods. If you need to, just modify the texture of the food you are eating, e.g. cut up meats and serve small pasta pieces that are easy for your child to pick up. Parents often become concerned that their child is not eating enough and frustrated when everything they prepare is refused. Remember that children do not grow as quickly in their second year as they do in their first. This means their appetite will not be as big. A toddler is also more capable of expressing likes and dislikes. You are responsible for what your child is offered to eat, when the food is offered and for making meal times pleasant. Your child is responsible for how much, or even whether, they eat. But remember, toddlers’ little stomachs need small amounts 5-6 times a day...

Basic Food Safety for Health Workers. KEY POINTS ... Health workers can play an important role in educating food ... as a routine tool for assuring food safety. # ...Hygiene in food preparation other organisms that might indicate the presence of pathogens. This is a totally unrealistic option for domestic and smallscale food preparation and, while at first sight appealing, it has been discredited even for large-scale food production. It is now almost universally recognized that microbiological testing of food products on its own is an ineffective and expensive way of trying to achieve an acceptable level of food safety assurance. Microbiological testing can be very costly and only gives information after the event, when the problem has already arisen. It may also give a false sense of security since microorganisms will not be spread uniformly throughout a food and samples taken may not show the presence of pathogens even though the food is contaminated....

Food and health. Let's take a look at what is good eating for the teenager. The Australian Guide to Healthy Eating is in the form of a 'food plate' to show the ...Parents want their teenagers to eat well and be healthy. That’s what we want too. First, you need to know that you are the biggest and most important influence to get your teenager eating well. If you are a good role model, your teenager is much more likely to eat well. Not every mealtime, admittedly, but over a week or more they will eat pretty well. Don’t expect to influence your children’s eating habits if you tell them to eat their vegetables while you hardly eat them yourself. Don’t expect them to eat fruit if they never see you eating fruit. If sweet biscuits, crisps and soft drinks are always in the house, you are saying they are always fine to eat and drink. Teenagers will learn more from your actions than they will from any lectures on nutrition.
