e - book: Basic Electronic Design & Ohms' Law

This book is written with a view to teaching a few of the basics of electronic circuit design using a number of equations from or based upon Ohms’ Law. It is aimed at the beginnerlevel student. Whilst knowledge of component function is assumed throughout, links to articles from other sources as well as kkomp.com have been included throughout in order that the reader can study and read up on the function of individual electronic components for the purpose of being able to better follow the basic tuition herein. Electronics is such a huge subject that it is impossible to cover every aspect in the required detail in a single book. Maybe a 1.5 terabyte hard drive would be large enough to store the knowledge of the average engineer, if it were zipped and otherwise compressed....This book is mainly about calculation used in simple circuit design, brought about by the use of basic calculus, in part using Ohms’ Law. The publication is intended to be the first in an ongoing series of books covering the basic principles of electronics and electronic circuit design. A basic knowledge of component identification and function is assumed in the reader. If this happens to not be the case then the information provided at the destination of the links incorporated within the text should be a sufficient source of knowledge. The book that you’re now reading does not endeavour to go into digital electronics at this stage, and concentrates rather on basic analogue DC circuit principles, which should be learned as a forerunner to the discovery of digital circuitry....

In an effort to foster dialogue and build a more inclusive community at Colgate and beyond, the university held its first Diversity Week in September. Events included lectures by GOP National Chairman Michael Steele and author Ernest Adams, intellectual discussions, workshops, and cultural activities. “This is our opportunity to examine race and culture in the twenty-first century and to celebrate it together,” said Interim President Lyle Roelofs in opening remarks. The week kicked off with a talk by Ernest Adams, author of From Ghetto to Ghetto: An African American Journey to Judaism, who spoke about his multicultural life. That same night, the Diversity Leadership Awards ceremony was held. Two Rebecca S. Chopp Diversity Achievement Awards were given, one to associate professor of educational studies John Palmer, and the other to Naledi Semela ’10, a member of the Brothers. The third award was the Alumni of Color Distinguished Teacher Award, given to Carolyn Hsu, associate professor of sociology and anthropology....FYI: 2009 H1N1 (“Swine”) Flu symptoms are similar to the symptoms of regular human flu, though some cases have reported associated diarrhea and vomiting. Students observe a teacher demonstration and then participate in the “Finding a Balance” activity using a ruler and balls of clay. Students discuss their results with the class. Students are shown the Center of Mass and how this affects orbits. Students complete the Solar System Illustration activity. Students share illustrations and write their essay on the results of their exploration in the AstroJournals. Rubrics are provided....Inquiry. The Outer Solar System - Super Teacher Worksheets

The outer solar system is the name of the planets beyond the asteroid belt. The planets in the outer solar system are called gas giants because they are made up of gas and ice. Other than the Sun, the gas giants contain ninety-nine percent of the mass in our whole solar system! The first stop our tour of the outer solar system is the fifth planet, Jupiter. Next to the Sun, Jupiter is the second most massive object in our solar system. It’s bigger than three hundred Earths! Made up of hydrogen and helium and a few other gasses, there are violent wind storms that circle around Jupiter. The most famous storm is called the Great Red Spot. It has been churning for more than four hundred years and scientists don’t think it will be slowing down any time soon. Jupiter has its own system of moons. At last count Jupiter has sixty-three known moons and a faint ring around it too....

Instantaneous speed was an especially important quantity to those scientists. Any calculus book you pick up will have dozens, if not hundreds, of references to the terms rate of change and instantaneous rate of change. Your calculus teacher and your text will assume that you understand what those terms mean. This is not “your father’s (or mother’s)” calculus book....
