This tutorial will walk you through the process of generating machine code for the University of Idaho Mechanical Engineering Department’s two CNC Mills. It start with a predefined part and ends with functioning G-code for both the machines. The part is designed to introduce you to many different machining processes and the variations in those processes in CATIA. Please note that this code is designed to be machined into wax. Do not use the speeds, feeds, or tool stopovers presented for any other material except wax. The accompanying CATPart can be found in the same location as this tutorial.... processes in CATIA.
Once the part is created in CATIA, it is ready to be analyzed. This tutorial assumes the user is able to create a part in CATIA using the Part Design workbench . Once the part is created material properties need to be established by clicking on Apply Material and selecting the desired material. Selecting Steel under the Metal tab in the material library box is commonly used as shown. Select the desired material, click Apply Material, and close the box....1 Modified from files from the folder Tutorial documents on the University of Idaho Shared Student Drive Originally by Mateo Cárdenas-Farmer 7/15/2011

EML 2322L -- MAE Design and Manufacturing Laboratory . CNC Machining . Intro to CNC Machining • CNC stands for computer numeric controlled. It refers to any...Conversational Programming. This is the simpler of the two methods. In effect, this is a macro programming language used to instruct the machine to perform pre-programmed cycles (i.e. facing, drilling holes in arrays, etc.). When writing a conversational program, you simply enter the appropriate parameters associated with each machining cycle. This is analogous to using the polar array function in SolidWorks or Pro/E; you don’t have to do the layout or trig to find the location of the features; you just specify the essential parameters and the software does the rest for you....The following cycles are typical of the machining operations available when programming a 3-axis CNC milling machine. Position. Used to move the XYZ coordinates at rapid feedrate. Drill_one. Used to position the tool at a specific XYZ coordinate position in order to automatically drill a hole. The automatic drill cycles allow for simple drilling, peck drilling, spot-facing and bore cycles. Drill_pattern. Used to define polar or rectangular hole arrays for automatic drilling. Line. Used to cut straight lines along an axis or a diagonal at the desired feedrate....
