CYLINDER HEAD, HEAD GASKET, VALVES, SPRINGS. Remove cylinder head Head gasket thickness: 0.040” minimum thickness of inner rim. Measure from head surface to top of valve head: Intake: maximum 0.210” minimum 0.178” Exhaust: maximum 0.210” minimum 0.178” This is best done with a depth micrometer or a bridge type dial indicator. Bridge type does not require removing carbon from head Surface. See photo on next page.

POST-INSTALLATION WARNINGS 1. Check all fasteners for proper torque. Check to ensure for adequate clearance between all rotating, mobile, fixed, and heated members. Verify clearance between exhaust and brake lines, fuel lines, fuel tank, floor boards and wiring harness. Check steering gear for clearance. Test and inspect brake system. 2. Perform steering sweep to ensure front brake hoses have adequate slack and do not contact any rotating, mobile or heated members.

The rear brake calipers clunk when you first apply the brakes after changing the direction of the vehicle. 1. Remove and discard the rear brake pad shims (three per caliper). For Pilots, refer to the 2003–04 Pilot Service Manual, page 19-18. For Odysseys, refer to the 1999–04 Odyssey Service Manual, page 19-25. PROBABLE CAUSE The outer shims on the rear brake pads do not allow the pads to slide easily when you press the brake pedal. This causes the outer pad to hit hard during a change of direction, resulting in a clunk.
