Enabling every American to have health insurance is a top priority
of the American Medical Association (AMA). In recent years, we
have seen that a persistently high portion of Americans have
lacked health insurance. Today there are an estimated 46.6 million
uninsured Americans.
This booklet details our proposal for covering the uninsured in the
United States by building on the current system. It presents a
number of steps that can be taken to ensure that individuals are fully
enabled to obtain the health insurance they want.
